The Polyphon is an antique, clockwork-powered disc music box invented in Germany in the late 19th century. Instead of using a traditional metal cylinder, it plays interchangeable, perforated metal discs. As the disc rotates, its metal projections pluck the teeth of a tuned steel comb to produce rich, mechanical melodies, invented in 1870 by Gustave Brachhausen & Paul Reissner in Leipzig, Germany.
